Deputy Minister to Lead Thohoyandou Community to
Clean the Town: 24th March 2009
The Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs and
Tourism, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi, will join Thohoyandou
community in a clean-up campaign on the 24th March 2009.
Vhembe District and Thulamela Municipalities’ mayors,
Cllr P. Mdaka and Cllr. T.N. Makumbane, respectively,
will participate in the clean-up. Acting CEO of Buyisa e
Bag, Mr. Enoch Dlamini, is also expected to attend.
Clean-Up Campaign promotes greening of the environment
which include vegetable gardens, planting of trees and
recycling waste such as plastics, papers, tins, etc done
with an aim of reducing hundred of thousands tons of
waste dumped in the land-fill sites each year. The
Deputy Minister will visit Tshiluvhi Primary School to
see the school’s efforts contributing towards greening
and waste recycling.
“Each community which successfully implements greening
of the environment and waste recycling directly
contributes in the fight against climate change. As a
matter of urgency, I would like to encourage communities
to start waste recycling and benefit from the commercial
incentives available in this industry”, said Deputy
Minister Mabudafhasi.
The highly popular Thohoyandou based Colbert Mukwevho
and members of his recording label will join the 500
plus volunteers in the clean-up campaign and later
provide live music entertainment.
The aim of the campaign is to make public places such as
shopping centres, taxi ranks, bottle stores, streets in
town and cities, etc to look clean and tidy at all
times. It further aims to inculcate responsibility in
the minds of the citizens to look after and keep their
environments clean.
