Poor Family gets House through Cooperative Governance

In the latest demonstration of the gains of cooperative governance,
Thulamela Municipality and the Department of Safety, Security and
Liaison pulled together their resources to build a house for a poor
family in Tshivhulani.
Mayor Thivhulawi Makumbane, MEC Samson Ndou and Provincial Police
Commissioner Calvin Nesengani handed over the fully furnished house
the exhilarated unemployed single mother, Norah Netshivhundini,
While going about her poverty stricken life, Netshivhundini said she never
dreamt of meeting the three “saviours”. She was blown away with joy when
she received the keys for the house on 26 June amid big celebration by a
local Tshikona outfit and police Shibelana group.
Urging the family to treat the great care, Makumbane said although Thulamela
Municipality was not responsible for providing houses, they could not allow
Netshivhindini’s situation to continue unabated.
“We are a caring municipality which values its citizens and we will continue to
assist wherever we can. To us, freedom for our people means giving them the necessary
services,” said Makumbane.
Stressing the significance of cooperative governance, MEC Ndou said: “A collective effort
between government departments, communities and businesses can help ease the burden of providing
all the people with proper shelter. Due to limited resources, we are desperately trying to build
houses for all deserving people like Netshivhundini”.
Expressing her appreciation for the house, Netshivhundini said: I thank God for entering these people’
s hearts. Their help proves that they sympathized with me and felt the same pain I was feeling.
This house has restored my dignity and I am a proud woman again”.
